TAIPEI , Taiwan – December 26, 2012-Motech Industries Inc. (TWO: 6244TW) (Motech) today announced its PVMate 3300MS, 3800MS and 4600MS series of photovoltaic inverter products designed for the residential and commercial market in Europe and Taiwan(“Products”) have passed the five-year simulation test according to the United States salt spray test standard outlined in ASTM B-117. Based on the said test result, Motech reaonably believe that Motech’s Products could be installed in areas where the environment has high concentration of salt spray, humidity and corrosive gas, such as coastal, river or lakes areas. This experiment is a simulated accelerated salt spray test for high concentration of salty coastal areas, and the total length of test is 360 hours which could be translated into an equivalent of five years of shelf life on the coast. The test result showed that the exteriors of tested inverters have no significant damage and/or corrosion, and only parts of the metal screws have appeared to be rusty, as well as a small part of the exterior paints have fallen off. No effect on the inverter’s functionality was observed.
The solar systems installed near the coast are exposed to harsh conditions, and Motech conduct a comprehensive inspection of the inverter and its components to ensure that its products are designed to withstand these challenges and maximize performance even under the most unfavorable conditions. When conducting a salt spray test, the test chamber is filled with corrosive gas to simulate the seaside environment. The circuit board is exposed to high salinity steam constantly, and the data obtained from this test could be used to further optimize and improve product reliability.
Note: ASTM B-117 is the standard practice for operating salt spray (fog) apparatus. ASTM International, formerly known as the American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM), is a globally recognized leader in the development and delivery of international voluntary consensus standards. Test parameters consisted of: 5% salt solution pH range of 6.5 to 7.2, vaporized into fog, chamber temperature maintained at 95 degrees Fahrenheit (35 ° C), the duration of the test ranges from 24 hours to thousands of hours, usually in 24-hour increments. Basis of conversion, one hour of salt spray test is equivalent to the five days in the coast environment.
