Climate change is a serious global issue as it could cause severe disasters that affect human activities. IPCC (Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change) reported in 1990 that the greenhouse effect and global warming due to greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions are the main causes of climate change. International governments are all trying to ease the global warming. In particular, our Taiwan government established the GHG inventory database for promoting GHG reduction on a national level.
A GHG inventory can provide data of fabrication emission to help us focus on the key emission source so that we may set our reduction plan based on the source. Motech complies with ISO14064 international inventory standards; our inventory results are verified by the Taiwan Accreditation Foundation (TAF) accredited company, SGS. Once verified, we can then upload these results into the government database.
Reduction of GHG emission to sustain the world is a core value within Motech. We are dedicated to producing solar cells with modern technology that can reduce GHG emission by substituting energy generation from petroleum fuel to solar power. In the meantime, Motech will keep improving our manufacturing processes to lower carbon emission, such like increasing material usage efficiency, product yield, and waste recycling rate.
GHG emission of Fab1 and Fab2 are respectively 18,424 and 23,531 metric tons of carbon dioxide equivalent. The main sources of emission are electricity consumption and the dry etching process.
